Rolex developed the first waterproof timepiece in 1926, naming it the "Oyster" after its waterproof seal. A few years later, the brand also developed their first self-winding movement referred to as the "Perpetual" movement, and the concept behind the Oyster Perpetual as we know it today was born. The vintage model 1018 was produced in the late 1960s and exudes the classic style that the brand has become so closely associated with. The case measures a very wearable 36mm in diameter and displays the time on a simple, three-hand dial. As an older pre-owned Rolex, the dial does show some signs of aging, which is a very desirable trait in a watch of this age.
Rolex didn't start to produce their movements completely in-house until 1957 when the 1500 series of movements was released. The calibre 1570 that beats within this vintage Rolex was among the brand's first in-house movement and was also COSC certified. The calibre 1570 beats at a rate of 19,800 bph and was among the first movements to offer a hacking feature.
