The Sky-Dweller is a rare brand new Rolex model, coming to market in 2012. Per the "Rolex Way" the brand typically builds upon the design of existing models as opposed to releasing brand new models, which makes the release of the Sky-Dweller even more intriguing. Upon first glance, collectors will notice that the Sky-Dweller offers more functions than a traditional Rolex timepiece. The dial is topped with traditional central hour, minute, and seconds hands as well as a date complication at 3 o'clock. A GMT register now circles the middle of the dial and a small red indicator now tops the hour markers. The red indicator displays the current month over the coordinating hour marker, revealing the sophisticated calibre 9001 movement's annual calendar function. The calendar, GMT register, central hands, and date mechanism can be accessed via a ring command bezel which is built into the movement itself.
