Pre-Owned Watch Condition Examination
This Bubbleback is in overall great, honest vintage condition. The case is strong with scratches and has been polished. The caseback shows signs of being opened along the coined edge. The crown has scratches. The serial number is clearly visible between the six o'clock lugs. Between both sets of lugs have some scratches. The dial and hands are in great condition and have developed patina. The dial has developed a consistent patina throughout and has some scratches. The expanding Oyster C&I rivet bracelet is in great condition and is a later replacement.
Rolex Oyster Perpetual 2940
The Rolex Bubbleback is credited as being the first official Oyster Perpetual timepiece, which included a waterproof Oyster case as well as a Perpetual movement with self-winding technology. Its feature set is characterized by a rounded case back that was developed to make room for the movement itself. The barrel-shaped case also includes broader lugs and a distinct non-lume dial, which is set with rose gold tone Roman numerals and baton hour markers. Dating back to the mid 1940s, this ref. 2940 is a precursor to the brand's immensely successful line of sports watches that were to follow in just a few short years.
