Pre-owned Patek Phillipe Ellipse ref 3931/10, with its already desirable Ellipse aesthetic, is made even more sought-after because it features a rare geometric hobnail bracelet, as indicated by the 10 at the end of the reference number. If the square-shaped motif looks familiar to you, it might be because it resembles the Aquanaut's embossed dial. It is decorated with a unique and distinctive texture called 'Clous de Paris' or hobnail, which remains crisp yet lightly worn and in overall great condition on both the bezel and bracelet. The Ellipse is celebrated for its somewhat unorthodox case shape, which the brand describes as "between a circle and a rectangle." Its harmonious proportions were directly inspired by the concept of the golden ratio and have an enduring and timeless quality. The case houses a striking white lacquer two-hand dial adorned with black Roman numerals and elegant, leaf-shaped hands.
Interestingly, the watch is powered by a quartz movement, which is a convenient feature to have on such a haute horlogerie timepiece because you don't need to worry about setting it every time you strap it onto your wrist. This watch came to us from the family of the original owner, who bought it in 1989 for 15,600 Swiss francs. The original owner happened to have copies of the papers and receipt (both with matching numbers to the watch) but couldn't locate the originals. These finer details only add to the overall provenance and collectability of this remarkable, pre-owned Patek Philippe.
