Rolex Milgauss Reference 116400 GV

The Rolex Milgauss has evolved over time from the original Milgauss Ref 6541 to the special Anniversary Green Crystal Reference 116400 GV. The name “Milgauss” is derived from the French mille for 1000 and gauss for the measurement. This special Rolex watch was designed to be highly resistant to magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss. This makes the Rolex Milgauss the perfect type of watch for those working near strong magnetic fields, including engineers, scientists and doctors.

The Antimagnetic Properties of a Rolex Milgauss

How does Rolex accomplish this? The innovators at Rolex were able to give the Milgauss antimagnetic properties with the use of the Faraday Cage construction. This includes a soft iron inner case that completely surrounds the watch’s delicate movement. It is able to shield it from magnetic fields that could interfere with it.

Case

The new Rolex Milgauss Ref 116400 GV offers a stainless steel case that measures 40 mm in diameter and is resistant to water pressure for up to 100 meters. Inside the case sits the automatic winding caliber 3131 movement. The aforementioned Faraday Cage is included as well as the brand new blue Parachrom hairspring. This hairspring is undisturbed by magnetic forces and offers more resistance to shock than previous hairsprings. This Rolex movement is known for its accuracy and reliability, so it is no surprise it is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.

Bezel & Bracelet

The case is topped with a smooth bezel and finished with a polished Oyster bracelet with center links. The bracelet also features the ingenious Easylink extension system. This specially designed system permits an instantaneous small adjustment to the bracelet circumference, great for when the wearer’s wrist expands or shrinks due to temperature changes.

Crystal

This version offers a unique green sapphire crystal, meant to celebrate the anniversary of the Milgauss. The green sapphire crystal enhances the luminosity of the dial in dark lighting, making it easier to read.

Dial

Beneath the crystal sits the Milgauss’s black dial topped with luminous hour markers. The dial is also inscribed with the name "MILGAUSS" in orange letters. The three o'clock, six o'clock and nine o'clock markers are also colored orange. The seconds hand is orange and is famously shaped like a lightning bolt, a throwback design to the original Milgauss Ref 6541. There are also orange Arabic numerals at the periphery of the dial at the five minute positions.
