This Submariner is in great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The inner caseback is stamped: "5513". The serial and reference numbers are visible between the lugs. The bezel insert is in great condition with normal wear. The pip at 12 is a later replacement. The Mark II Maxi matte black dial is in overall attractive condition with light patina and some light marks that can be hard to notice. The lume on the hour markers have developed patina and aged to a sandy yellow color. Some of the lume plots show signs of degradation. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands has been color corrected and are close to matching the color of the lume on the dial. It has a stainless steel 93150 Oyster bracelet with 10 links, 580 end links and divers extension link. The bracelet is stamped "K5" indicating that it is from 1986. The bracelet is in great condition with normal signs of wear and light stretch between the links.
Pre-Owned Rolex Submariner ref 5513 (Circa 1979) was one of the longest continually produced references from the brand. Rolex initially used glossy dials in this model and swapped to matte around 1966. Rolex made many variations of the matte dial and this circa 1979 example has a "Maxi" dial. Rolex made these "Maxi" dials from around 1978 to 1984. "Maxi" refers to the lume plots being larger than the ones on previous 5513's.
n the Maxi dial realm collectors have identified 5 different Maxi dial variations and this watch has the "Mark II" variety. The Mark II "Maxi dial" is distinguished by the "Submariner" text above the depth rating, the placement of the "=" symbol in the depth rating among other details.
