This watch is in overall great vintage condition. The case is in great condition with normal signs of wear. The inner case back is engraved: "1680" Serial and reference numbers are clearly visible. The bezel is in attractive, honest condition with some wear and chips along the inner edge (ones to note at 12, 3, & 6). The whole bezel has aged to a lovely dark grey color throughout. The dial is in excellent condition with light patina and the lume in the hands and on the dial have aged to a similar attractive yellow color. The hands have developed patina. The Stainless steel 9315 Oyster fold-over with 11 links, 380 end links and divers extension. The clasp is stamped "A" indicating it is from 1976. The folded Oyster bracelet is in great condition with normal signs of wear with some stretch between the links which is not uncommon.
Pre-owned Rolex Submariner ref 1680 (1978) is one of the most sought-after vintage watches on the market. It hails from the legendary Submariner collection, complete with an Oyster case, 60-minute diver's bezel, and self-winding movement. The 1680 also holds a special place in Rolex history as the first Submariner to feature a date mechanism on the dial. Rolex initially made the 1680 with a single line of red text on the dial and would later move to all white text like the example we have here. These "White" 1680s have gained popularity and good ones are becoming harder and harder to find. This example has aged beautifully over the years from the perfectly aged bezel to the buttery yellow lume color; this Sub checks all the boxes.
