This chronograph is in great, honest vintage condition. The case is in great condition with some wear and scratches; its possibly unpolished. The smooth bezel has remained sharp. The white dial has developed a lovely mocha colored patina throughout and has some wear and marks. The hour markers have some patina and the lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to a mustard color, some of the plots show signs of degradation. The hour and minute hands have developed patina and the lume has aged darker than the lume on the dial. The bracelet is in great condition with some scratches and wear.
Rolex came out with the reference 6234 in circa 1955 and it was in production until 1961.The 6234 came out before the reference 6238 "Pre-Daytona" which came directly before the 6239, which was the first Daytona. You can see how Rolex continued to use the same design language through to the Daytona. The reference 6234 is powered by the legendary manual winding Valjoux 72 which is the base of the later Daytona movements. In typical Rolex fashion, the company offered multiple variations of the reference 6234 in stainless steel, 14k gold and 18k gold. This example features a stainless steel case and white dial with "small sub-dials." This example features "ROW" engraved on the movement which means it was destined for the United States market (ROW was the Rolex USA import code).
The watch we are offering here is in overall great, honest condition and has taken on a lovely patina. The dial has developed patina throughout and has taken on a bit of a mocha color on the once all white dial. The edge of the dial around the telemeter scale has developed patina while the telemeter scale has remained more white also adding to the unique athestic to this chronograph. These ref. 6234s have so much character and tend to fly under the radar unlike the later Daytona models.
We decided to offer this chronograph on a strap along with the bracelet because the tan colored strap really brings out the gorgeous patina.
