This GMT is in fantastic overall condition. It appears to have been carefully worn with some scratches, light nicks, and light wear. The case is strong and appears to be unpolished. Some of the lug holes show minor wear around the edge, most likely from removing the bracelet. The bevels on the case are clearly visible and sharp. The caseback sticker is still intact, but shows some wear. The back of the 11 o'clock lug has "M5161" lightly hand engraved in small writing, we believe this is some sort of internal inventory number from the store it was originally sold at. The bezel ring is sharp and the bezel insert colors have remained vibrant and is in excellent condition with little signs of wear. The dial is in excellent condition with light patina. The hands are in great condition with some patina and signs of oxidation which is not uncommon. The lume in the hands and on the dial have aged to a matching color and have developed patina. The lume in the GMT hand shows some wear and has a small crack. This watch has a 62523H bracelet with 20 links and no. 450 end links. The clasp is stamped "I1" indicating it is from 1984 which makes sense for the production of the case. The bracelet is in excellent condition with light wear and the gold has developed a bit of patina. The clasp shows some wear.
The Rolex 16753 Root Beer GMT Master is distinguished by a unique two-tone aluminum bezel in tones of brown and gold. The case and bracelet are presented in two-tone steel and gold. The iconic Root Beer also often displays the time on a brown nipple dial via faceted yellow gold hour markers and matching Mercedes hands. Rolex updated the movement for the 16753 and it now features a quick-set date which makes setting a breeze. We don't come across two-tone GMT's in this type of condition with the full set very often as we see many of these were worn and loved over the years. These 1980s 16753 "Root Beer" GMT's have a uniquely retro vibe and we have seen interest rise in these models. This watch is a true time capsule and comes with nearly everything the original owner would have gotten back when they got it new. The serial number matches the numbers on the papers and the hang-tag, it’s nice when all these details line up. It's also interesting to note this was originally sold at J. Herbert Hall and has that name on the papers as well as on the inside of the top of the outer box on a sales sticker. If you have been in the market for a two-tone "Root Beer" GMT in pristine condition with its full set, this is worth considering.
