Vintage Rolex Daytona Ref 6263 Silver Dial

Rolex came out with the Daytona in 1963 and today modern and vintage examples alike are some of the most sought after watches in the world. Rolex came out with the reference 6263 around 1971 and this would be the last generation of the manually wound Daytona. The defining characteristics of the reference 6263 are the screw down style pushers and the black acrylic bezel. Rolex offered this model in a few variations in stainless steel. Rolex offered them with a silver dial with black sub registers, like the example we have here today or with a black dial and white registers. Rolex also offered these with exotic dials known as Paul Newman dials and they offered the model in all gold as well.

The example we are offering here comes directly from the original owner who got it as a Christmas gift in 1984. It has a light caseback engraving commemorating this occasion. He kept the box, outer box, Daytona booklets and original receipt, but the original papers were lost at some point over the years. It's interesting to note that the watch dates to circa 1979, but on the receipt wasn't sold until October 26, 1984 which backs up the old stories of how Daytona's weren't super popular back in the day and would often sit before selling, oh how times have changed!  When examining the receipt this was sold on October 26, 1984 at Jobe Rose Jewelers located in Alabama and it cost $704 before tax!
