This Rolex watch is in excellent vintage condition with surface wear consistent with age on the bracelet, case and bezel. The case is strong with scratches and wear; it appears to have been lightly polished. The inside caseback is stamped "6263" which is not uncommon. Rolex was known to mis-match casebacks with different reference numbers on the same models. The pushers are later service replacements. The bezel is in great condition with some signs of wear and scratches. The dial is in excellent condition. The lume plots are full and round; some of the plots have developed small areas of darker patina. The bracelet is in great condition with some wear, scratches, and some stretch between the links.
Rolex came out with the Daytona in 1963 and today modern and vintage examples alike are some of the most sought after watches in the world. Rolex came out with the reference 6265 around 1971 - it is the last generation of the manually wound Daytona. The defining characteristics of the reference 6265 are the screw down style pushers and metal bezel. Rolex offered this model in a few variations in stainless steel. Rolex produced them with a black dial with white sub registers, or like the example we have here today with a silver dial and black registers. Rolex also offered these Daytona's with exotic dials known as Paul Newman dials and in gold as well.
The example for sale here is referred to by collectors as a "Sigma Dial" and furthermore its a "tight sigma dial." Sigma refers to the little Sigma symbols on either side of the "T Swiss T" at the bottom of the dial under six. Tight sigma refers to the Sigma symbols being closer to the "T Swiss T" where as on the other Sigma versions the symbols are spaced out a bit more. To learn more about Sigma dials, go here.
This watch is in overall great, honest condition and is fresh to market. The whole watch has aged so nicely from the well preserved bezel to the gorgeous silver dial with nicely aged lume and intact lume plots. If you have been in the market for a 6265 this one is worth considering!
