This Daytona is in great, vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The inside caseback is stamped "CRS 6241" and shows wear around the inside edge. Between the lugs show some wear and the serial and reference numbers are visible. Behind the lugs show some scratches and wear. The upper pusher shows some wear/ has slight indentations. The Mark 1 bezel is in great, honest condition with some scratches and normal signs of wear; it has one small divot at 3 o'clock. The silver dial is in overall excellent condition with light patina and light wear. The lume plots have developed patina and have aged to an attractive yellow color; the plots are full and round. The hands have developed patina around the lume on the frame of the hand; this can be hard to notice. The lume in the hands has developed patina and aged similarly to the lume on the dial. The watch has a C&I USA rivet Oyster with 12 links, and the clasp is stamped "1-72," indicating it is from 1972. The bracelet is in overall great condition with normal signs of wear and light stretch.
Rolex introduced the Daytona in 1963, and it has remained a staple in their catalog ever since. Widely regarded as one of the most iconic and sought-after watches, demand for both modern and vintage models has soared. Among the early manual-winding variations, the ref. 6241 stands out, known for its classic pump pushers and black acrylic bezel.
The 6241 is relatively rare, and interestingly, the exotic "Paul Newman" version is more commonly seen than the standard version featured here. This example showcases a silver dial with contrasting black sub-dials, and the acrylic bezel adds a striking contrast. The 6241 combines the best of both worlds: the bold black acrylic bezel and functional pump pushers.
Notably, the ref. 6241 was the first Rolex Daytona to pair a black acrylic crystal with pump-style pushers. It followed the ref. 6239, which had similar pushers but with a metal bezel. The black acrylic bezel on the 6241 significantly changes the watch’s appearance, adding contrast and presence. Both references were powered by the hand-wound caliber 722, later replaced by the higher-beat caliber 727. With the new movement, Rolex shifted to screw-down pushers, making the 6241 even more significant.
