This GMT-Master is in great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The inside caseback is stamped "1675" and "11.72". The bezel ring has remained sharp, and the black bezel is in great condition with normal signs of wear; it has faded throughout and presents as a dark grey color depending on the lighting. The matte black dial is overall great condition with light patina. The lume on the dial has aged to a creamy, even very pale yellow color. The hands have developed light patina and the lume in the hands are a bit more yellow than the lume on the dial. When looking closely the lume in the GMT hand and in the seconds hand have a a small hole. It appears that the small hole in the GMT hand was repaired previously and some of that relume is present under UV light. This watch has a stainless-steel C+I bracelet with 12 links. The bracelet clasp is stamed "1-73" indicating it is from 1973. The bracelet is in overall good condition with stretch between the links. The clasp has a slight indentation.
The GMT Master is Rolex’s signature pilot’s watch, complete with dual-time capabilities. It came to market in 1955, with ref. 1675 following shortly after in 1959. It’s one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex watches on the secondary market because it’s instantly recognizable with its 24-hour bezel and dedicated GMT hand. The Rolex 1675 was also notably the first GMT Master to use crown guards. Rolex initially used glossy dials in the 1675 until around 1966 and switched to matte dials.
Rolex produced several versions of the matte dial GMTs, and this example features the sought-after "Mark II" dial. Collectors identify the Mark II by the font, thickness, and spacing of the word "Rolex" on the dial. This GMT has a really crisp vibe with the pale colored lume and black bezel insert. It's amazing how the black bezel gives this watch a whole different look compared to the "Pepsi," These black bezel GMT's tend to fly a little under the radar and this example has a perfectly faded insert giving the watch that quintessential vintage look many collectors seek out.
