This GMT is in excellent vintage condition. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear; it appears to have been polished. The inside caseback is stamped "1675 II.70." The red-back "Pepsi" bezel is in overall great condition with patina and has faded slightly throughout. The blue presents as a lovely aqua color and the red shows hints of copper. The dial is excellent condition with light patina. The lume on the dial has aged to a lovely creamy marshmallow color. The hands have developed light patina and the lume in the hands are matching the color of the lume on the dial. When looking at the hour and seconds hands the lume shows some wear. The 7836 folded Oyster bracelet has 13 links and no. 280 end links. The back of the clasp is stamped '2 70' indicating it is from 1970. The bracelet is in overall great condition overall with normal wear and light stretch between the links.
The GMT Master is Rolex’s signature pilot’s watch, complete with dual-time capabilities. It came to market in 1955, with ref. 1675 following shortly after in 1959. It’s one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex watches on the secondary market because it’s instantly recognizable with its 24-hour bezel and dedicated GMT hand. The Rolex 1675 was also notably the first GMT Master to use crown guards. Rolex initially used glossy dials in the 1675 until around 1966 and switched to matte dials.
This circa 1972 "Pepsi" GMT has a Mark I matte dial and collectors refer to this dial variation as a Mark I "Long E." When looking at the "Rolex" text on the dial the "E" has a longer central bar (same length as the top and bottom ones) and that is where this nickname comes from.
This example is super attractive and has a great vintage vibe and feel with its perfectly aged bezel, creamy lume and folded link Oyster bracelet. We love how the creamy lume pops against the matte dial and perfectly compliments the bezel.
