This Vintage GMT-Master Pepsi is in overall great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in great condition with some wear and scratches; it has been polished. Between the lugs have some scratches. The bezel ring has remained sharp and the fuchsia bezel has some scratches and shows signs of fading; the back is fuchsia colored. The date wheel has closed 6's and hooked 7's; it also has developed some patina. The matte black dial is in overall great condition with light patina and some marks/ darker patina around the edges that can be hard to notice depending on the lighting. The hour markers have developed patina and aged to a pale yellow color throughout; the 2 and 4 o'clock lume plots have developed a bit of darker patina than the other plots. Some of the lume plots show signs of degradation, specifically 4 -8, it appears to be from previous GMT hand drag. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands have been color corrected to match the lume on the dial. The folded jubilee bracelet is in great condition with some scratches and wear, it has a bit of stretch between the links which is very common for this style bracelet. The crystal has some light wear. The gold "Your Rolex Oyster" booklet is trimmed on the top and bottom of the closing cover.
The GMT Master is Rolex’s signature pilot’s watch, complete with dual-time capabilities. It came to market in 1954, with ref. 1675 following shortly after in 1959. It’s one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex watches on the secondary market because it’s instantly recognizable with its 24-hour bezel and dedicated GMT hand. The Rolex 1675 was also notably the first GMT Master to use crown guards. Rolex initially used glossy dials in the 1675 until around 1966 and switched to matte dials. Rolex made many different variations of the celebrated model and this example features a Mark 1 dial and fuchsia colored bezel. This example also features the "small" GMT hand that Rolex used in all the GMTs prior. Rolex switched to the larger GMT hand that they still use around circa 1968. Once pointed out, the smaller GMT hand gives the watch a different and more old-school athestic.
This circa 1967 example is in overall beautiful condition with it's beautifully aged lume and fuchsia bezel. Collectors refer to this dial variation as a Mark I "Long E." When looking at the "Rolex" text on the dial the "E" has a longer central bar (same length as the top and bottom ones) and that is where this nickname comes from. Rolex made many iterations of the GMT over the years and this watch has a couple additional interesting things to note. This watch has a "thin case" which is approximately 12.7mm and Rolex did this until approximately 1967. This watch also has the correct date-wheel for the time period with the closed 6's and 9s as well as hooked 7s. In addition this GMT comes complete with its box and double punched papers! Double punched refers to the chronometer papers and the guarantee, both of which are perforated with the corresponding serial number.
Great and easy transaction. Very professional and communicative. For sure a solid experience.
Great watch and very good help from Sam Berger who catered to my concerns.
Great watch and very good help from Sam Berger who catered to my concerns.
Well represented watch in excellent condition. Super fast shipping. My second purchase from Bobs but not my last. Their watches seem to be in better condition than many of the others I’ve seen online.
The whole transaction process with Bob's is always top notch. The vintage watch was functioning as expected, the case is relatively strong with minimal polishing, and the dial is a beautiful service dial as expected.
I really like this beautiful 1675 with fuchsia bezel.
Quick e-mail responses, systematic
I have worn this watch everyday for 47 years, had it cleaned every 8 or so years, had the bezel replaced with the new one back in the 80s. Paid $400 in Switzerland in 1970. This is the greatest lifetime deal ever!!
