This Tudor Submariner is in overall honest, vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The inside caseback is stamped "7928 1.67". The bezel ring has remained sharp and the "Long 5" bezel insert shows some wear and aged with a bit of a fade throughout giving it a greyish-blue hue. The watch has retained its correct crown (non trip-lock without three dots). The dial is in good condition with light patina. The lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to an attractive even pale yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands matches the color of the lume on the dial.
Here we have a beautiful Tudor Submariner ref. 7928 from circa 1966. Tudor came out with this reference in 1959 and produced it until around 1969. Tudor made several variations of this reference and this example features the last dial variation before they discounted this reference and came out with the successor the ref. 7016 / 7021. This example has aged nicely over the years from the lovely lume color to the perfectly aged bezel, this thing really pops in the sunlight!
This watch has a few stand out features that are worth mentioning. First off this is of the open-chapter ring variation and we love the combination of the gilt colored minute hash marks around the edge of the dial combined with the white text. The dial has the "self-winding" is in an upward arch and collectors refer to this as a "smiley." Tudor used this detail in some of the modern Black Bay watches so its nice to see the history of this detail. The dial also features a "Rose" logo which is something Tudor stopped doing around 1969 when they went to the shield logo. The movement on this watch has an "ROW" stamp which was the US import code for Tudor/Rolex which indicates that this watch was destined for the US market.
These vintage Tudor Subs offer a great value and are perfect for those who want a more under the radar Submariner.
This Tudor is one of the best vintage examples I have seen in a long time. Thank you Bob's for the great timepiece. The watch looks even better in person!
