The 5508 was launched in 1957 and is often referred to as the “small crown” or “small James Bond”. This was the last Submariner to offer a 100 meter depth rating and features a case with no crown guards which are a staple on all the modern professional models. Fitted with the Rolex caliber 1530, it offered improved reliability compared with its predecessor model – the reference 6536.
This timepiece has a case that is unpolished and the original bevels are still visible, making this a fantastic find! Another standout feature of this timepiece is its original, glossy, gilt dial with minute chapter ring that remains in great condition. The dial has aged to a slightly tropical color with creamy hour markers and has aged gold Mercedes hands as well. The bezel insert has beautiful age to it, complimenting the entirety of the watch.
