This Rolex watch is in overall great vintage condition. The case is in great condition with normal signs of wear. The bezel insert has faded throughout to an attractive light grey/blue color and shows normal signs of wear throughout. The caseback stamped "1680". Serial and reference numbers are visible. The bezel has a blemish between 12-1 that can be hard to notice. The pip is a later replacement. The dial is in excellent condition with light patina. The lume on the dial and in the hands have developed patina and aged to a striking yellow color. The hands have developed a bit of patina; the lume in the hands matches the lume on the dial nicely. Stainless steel 9315 Fold Over Oyster with380 end links, 12 links and a diver's extension link; Clasp is stamped "A" indicating it is from 1976. The bracelet is in great condition with some wear and light stretch between the links.
Pre-owned Rolex Submariner ref 1680 ( 1978) is one of the most sought-after vintage watches on the market. It hails from the legendary Submariner collection, complete with an Oyster case, 60-minute diver's bezel, and self-winding movement. The 1680 also holds a special place in Rolex history as the first Submariner to feature a date mechanism on the dial. Rolex initially made the 1680 with a single line of red text on the dial and would later move to all white text like the example we have here. These "White" 1680s have gained popularity and good ones are becoming harder and harder to find. This example has aged beautifully over the years. The bezel has taken on a gorgeous fade that is darker at the bottom and lightens towards the top edge; it also has taken on a bluish-grey color which is just fantastic. In addition to the bezel, the lume has aged to a striking yellow that really pops. Its amazing to think of how this watch looked when it was born and now, that's one reason why we see many people gravitate towards vintage watches.
