To protect the self-winding movement from such extreme depths, Rolex hermetically seals the Oyster case via a stainless steel screw-down case back and a waterproof screw-down crown. A sapphire crystal further protects the dial. As the wearer ascends to the surface from deep saturation dives, they can adjust the unidirectional bezel on the case to measure decompression stops and other diving times. Additionally, the case is topped with a black dial with contrasting luminous hour markers for optimal visibility.
