Motorcar Cavalcade Concours d’Elegance

Paul Altieri

Famous for its glamorous vibe, vibrant scene, and lavish living, few cities in the country are as closely associated with luxury cars and fine luxury timepieces as Miami, Florida. Bob’s Watches was proud to support this year’s edition of the Motorcar Cavalcade Concours d’Elegance, held last weekend on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the swanky JW Marriott Turnberry Resort & Spa. Car enthusiasts from all over the nation converged at this premier event to admire the collection of vintage, rare, and unique cars on display.

Motorcar Cavalcade Concours d'Elegance

From vintage beauties to modern hypercars, some of the finest automobiles ever made were on display at the chic garden party setting. Speaking of setting, the cars rolled onto the 18-hole course fairway in dramatic effect. Some of the head-turning cars on show at the 2023 Motorcar Cavalcade Concours d’Elegance included a Mclaren Senna, Ferrari SF90 Spider, Lamborghini Sian, and Bugatti Chiron. What’s more, Hennessey Performance Engineering chose the event to unveil its new $2.7 million Venom F5 Roadster, engineered to exceed 300 mph.

The Best of Show winners were a 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series for the Modern category and a 1928 Auburn 8-115 Speedster for the Classic category. This is the second edition of what will surely become a staple Miami car event, created by Jason Wenig. As the owner of The Creative Workshop, a full-service classic and specialty vehicle restoration and coachbuilding business, Wenig certainly knows his way around epic cars.

High-End Cars & Luxury Watch Spotting

High-End Cars & Luxury Watch Spotting

Where there are swanky cars, high-end watches are sure to follow. And the watch spotting at the Motorcar Cavalcade did not disappoint. Despite the sweaters and jackets worn that day to shield many of the 2,000 guests from the unusually cold (for South Florida) temperatures, most were happy to pull up their sleeves to show us their watches.

A few of the standout timepieces on the attendees’ wrists included an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak a Breguet Reine de Naples, and a Cartier Santos chronograph. There was also a married couple wearing a pair of F.P. Journe pieces, which is, as I’m sure you’ll agree, a fantastic way to sport a his and hers set. It wasn’t just pricey watches either; we saw a MoonSwatch Jupiter, which of course was part of the last year’s most hyped watch collection to hit the market thanks to a collaboration between Swatch and Omega.

Rolex Watches

Rolex Watches

Unsurprising to us, about 80% of the watches that were present at the Motorcar Cavalcade were luxury Rolex watch models. With a sea of GMT-Masters, Submariners, Sky-Dwellers, Day-Date Presidents, Daytonas, Yacht-Masters, and some vintage numbers, the Rolex catalog was well represented. It was also interesting to note that we could tell that plenty of these watches were loved and worn regularly as indicated by the small scratches, dings, and other signs of solid wrist time. We love that; there’s no need to be too precious about your watches – even the high-end watches – these are meant to be worn and enjoyed as much as possible!

As part of our support of the event, Bob’s Watches booked a full-page ad next to the event schedule; our logo was also featured alongside a slew of prominent companies that partnered with the Motorcar Cavalcade Concours d’Elegance.

Celebrities

Grammy award-winning musician Wyclef Jean was there at the event, serving as a guest judge in the Sound category, with a gold and black Hublot watch on his wrist. In contrast to traditional Concours where categories include marque, model, or era, Motorcar Cavalcade entrants competed in atypical classes such as Sound, Lights, Finishes, Dashboards, Doors, Tails, and Cockpit. This playful approach resulted in an eclectic range of collector cars. Former NBA player Alonzo Mourning, and Motorsports Hall of Famers Tommy Kendall and Lyn St James were also part of the jury.
