Superstar quarterback Tom Brady may be loyal to just one NFL team, but in the watch world, the six-time Super Bowl champ just switched sides. IWC Schaffhausen recently announced that Tom Brady joined the company as an official brand ambassador.
This comes as a surprise to some since Tom Brady had been a brand ambassador for TAG Heuer since 2015, complete with a special-edition “Tom Brady” Carrera chronograph made in New England Patriot colors, and featuring his signature. We can only assume that his contract with TAG came to an end and IWC snapped him up for their growing sponsorship roster.
Tom Brady Already Owns Several IWC Watches
Tom Brady has already been spotted wearing a number of different IWC watches this year. He was photographed wearing the new Timezoner Spitfire Edition ‘The Longest Flight’ that was released just ahead of SIHH 2019, and was also seen wearing the limited-edition Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Edition “150 Years” at this year’s Met Gala in May. Additionally, according to IWC, Brady also has a Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Miramar in his personal collection.
Commenting on the new partnership, Tom Brady said, “I am honored to be partnering with IWC Schaffhausen, a brand I’ve long admired, not only for their timeless design but their precise engineering and attention to detail,” said Brady. “I am excited to be part of the IWC family and look forward to collaborating with their talented team to share the brand’s unique heritage globally.”
An Expanding List of Ambassadors
Tom Brady joins a growing list of other IWC brand ambassadors like Academy Award-nominated actor Bradley Cooper, and five-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton. And while we can’t imagine the Schaffhausen-based watchmaker releasing a watch in Tom Brady’s honor, the brand “looks forward to bringing their partnership to life with many exciting new projects planned.”
It’s no secret that top-tier Swiss watchmakers strive to dominate the American market, and while the sport is in the midst of turmoil, football is still king around these parts. Perhaps we will see more NFL players as watch brand ambassadors in the near future.
