An ace on any wrist

With the highly anticipated Wimbledon tennis tournament only a week away, we take a closer look at the Rolex 116333. Sometimes referred to as the Wimbledon dial, the metal, dial details, and bezel configuration of the ref. 116333 is a beautiful example of classic Rolex styling.

The Rolex Datejust II 116333 collection was initially introduced in 2009 as a larger and more up-to-date alternative to the traditional Rolex Datejust model. With an Oyster case that measures 41mm and an overall bolder appearance, the Datejust II is perfectly in tune with contemporary trends in gent’s watches.

This particular “Wimbledon” reminds us of Rolex ambassadors. A flawlessly combines classic design details such as the 18k yellow gold fluted bezel and Roman numerals with more modern touches such as the black and green color choice for the numerals, slate gray dial, and flat Oyster bracelet. Fittingly, the use of the color green on this particular Datejust II is not only a traditional color within Rolex’s palette but also a nod to Wimbledon. The Rolesor two-tone metal combination of robust stainless steel and precious 18k yellow gold lends both a sporty and dressy look to the Datejust II ref. 116333. It’s a watch that can be worn anytime, anywhere.

Housed within the case of the Rolex ref. 116333 is the Rolex Caliber 3136 automatic mechanical movement with the instantaneous date function and 48 hours of power reserve. As part of the newer generation of in-house calibers, the COSC-certified 3136 movement is equipped with the Rolex Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers for better resistance to both shocks and temperature changes.

Outfitted with the Twinlock screw-down crown and fluted caseback, the Rolex Datejust II is waterproof to 330 feet (100 meters). Naturally, the date window at 3 o’clock is magnified by the characteristic Cyclops lens on the sapphire crystal for better legibility. For added comfort and practicality, the two-tone Rolesor Oyster bracelet with polished center links is furnished with the Rolex proprietary Easylink system to allow wearers to easily extend the bracelet up to 5mm when needed.
