The collection was initially developed as a pilot's watch just as the Pan American Company had begun to offer Transatlantic flights. The demand for a reliable dual-time pilot's watch was high, and the GMT Master delivered. The original GMT Master remained in production until it was officially discontinued in 1999. The ref. 16700 was the last reference produced in the first series that was also notably produced alongside its replacement the GMT Master II for several years. Collectors who sought the brand's pilot's watch at a slightly more affordable price turned to the ref. 16700. Today, this example of the line is a very desirable collector's item that is available in an array of feature sets, including the Pepsi bezel preowned Rolex that you see here today.
