Pre-owned Patek Philippe Gondolo ref 5098R-001 (2019) is an art deco masterpiece. It evokes a sense of nostalgia with its exquisite tonneau-shaped case and Breguet-style Arabic hour markers. The retro design language doesn't come as much of a surprise, though, because the Gondolo collection traditionally houses the brand's non-round watches and is known for taking inspiration from many of the most important historical models from Patek Philippe's past. And this watch certainly does not disappoint.
Reference 5098R debuted in 2007, with the rose gold example you see here coming to market just a few years later in 2009. The collection is noted in horology for introducing the brand's portfolio to the innovative caliber 25-21 REC hand-wound movement. You can observe the hard-working caliber and its phenomenal Côtes de Genève finish through the exhibition case back. It beats at a rate of 28,800 bph, promises accuracy up to -3/+2 seconds per day, and boasts a convenient 48-hour power reserve. Lastly, the beautifully hand-guilloched double branded dial sits beneath a nicely chambered crystal, with our example featuring a brown raised dial ring to match the rose gold finish and the iconic Tiffany & Co. logo.
