This Patek Philippe is in overall great condition consistent with age. The case is in good condition with some scratches and normal signs of wear. The two hallmarks on the side of the case at 9 o’clock are deep and clearly visible. The dial and hands are in excellent condition. The 18k Patek Philippe deployant buckle is in great condition with normal signs of wear. The Patek presentation winding box shows signs of deterioration (which is common for these Patek boxes from this era).
Patek Philippe came out with the reference 5040 in 1992 and it was in production until 2007. Patek offered this model in yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, and platinum. It is estimated that Patek made approximately 1800 pieces in yellow gold, like the example we have here. Patek made multiple different dial combinations for this model during its production and the watch we have here has a classic opaline-white dial with Breguet style numerals and hands. The 5040 is an automatic perpetual calendar with the same movement as the legendary reference 3940 with micro-rotor. We love the little details like the “sigma dial” and minute track around the edge of the dial. The The 5040 is distinguished by its tonneau style case; shaped watches by Patek are often overlooked and the 5040 is an example of that.
This watch comes with its presentation box, stylus (for setting the watch) and Extract from the Archives showing it was made in 1995 and sold on September 27,1995. The extract confirms the dial that is currently on the watch which is always nice.
