Monterey Car Week 2019 Recap at Pebble Beach

Paul Altieri

This year from August 8th – 18th, car enthusiasts from all over the globe gathered along the scenic Monterey Peninsula in California for an exciting week of automotive fun. With a diverse range of both activities and automobiles, Monterey Car Week offers something for everyone, from collectors of vintage classics to fans of the latest and greatest supercars.

The 2019 edition of Monterey Car Week is now behind us, and as always, the week was packed full of some of the most amazing automobiles (and luxury watches) you have ever seen – all gathered in one place. As one of the year’s must-attend events for true car enthusiasts, Monterey Car Week is packed with auto shows, exhibitions, cocktail hours, auctions, and even the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion – an annual competition that celebrates motorsports history and brings together approximately 550 historic race cars, selected from more than 1,000 entry applications, to do exactly what they were built to do – and that’s race!

In addition to the numerous exhibitions and auto shows, there are also ample opportunities for collectors to add to their collections. This year, the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction featured some of the most rare and important vehicles on this planet. Bidding wrapped up Saturday evening with total preliminary sales totals coming in at $245.5M (although a number of other major sales will likely finalize over the next few days).

Highlights from the RM Sotheby’s auction included the 1994 McLaren F1 ‘LM-specification’’ that sold for a whopping $19.805M, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB that fetched $8.145M, and the 1965 Aston Martin DB5 “Bond Car” fitted with all the appropriate gadgets, which became the most expensive DB5 ever sold at public auction, pulling in a final sale price of $6.38M.

While the cars at Monterey Car Week are expectedly spectacular, the watches in attendance at the event are also equally noteworthy. Watches and cars are two things that pair together exceptionally well, both requiring a perfect balance of design, performance, ergonomics, and mechanical ingenuity.

Inspired by the remarkable cars featured in the RM Sotheby’s auction, we have collaborated with Sotheby’s to offer Watches Online: The Driver’s Collection – a specially curated selection of some of the world’s most rare and desirable watches. Today is the final day of bidding, so act fast – you don’t want to miss out!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so without further ado, here is the Bob’s Watches official photo report for Monterey Car Week 2019.
