About the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean

Features, such as an impressive water-resistance rating of 600 meters (2,000 feet), a helium escape valve, and a Swiss-made automatic movement, packaged in a handsome yet sporty design is a hard proposition to resist. The dial design is subtly inspired by the first Omega Seamaster Professional from 1957, featuring similar Arabic numerals, broad-arrow hands, and radial minute track around the periphery. Yet the Planet Ocean is thoroughly modern in its execution, boasting high-tech materials and sophisticated movements.

Omega has continuously evolved the Planet Ocean collection over the years, which has resulted in three generations thus far. The first generation is characterized by the use of aluminum bezels and ETA-based movements. The next generation followed in 2011 and the Omega Planet Ocean watches were updated with ceramic bezels and in-house movements. Finally, in 2016, Omega released the newest generation of Planet Ocean watches, which retains the ceramic bezels (including some variants with a rubberized 15-minute section) but now houses the latest in-house Master Chronometer movements.

In customary Omega fashion, the Planet Ocean is offered in a wide assortment of flavors with a dizzying variety of materials, sizes, colors, movements, functions, and design options available. Naturally, this begs the question, what’s the best Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean watch to get? We’ve rounded up five of our favorites right here for you to browse through and consider.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer

Part of the newest generation released in 2016, the Planet Ocean ref. 215.33.44.21.01.001 pairs a 43.5mm steel case with a black ceramic bezel and black ceramic dial. The dial benefits from pops of orange – a signature color of the Planet Ocean family – and like all standard models in the collection, it features a date window at the 3 o’clock position. Following the norms of all modern dive watches, the Planet Ocean bezel is unidirectional and for this particular model, Omega uses Liquidmetal alloy to mark out the 60-minute scale on the black ceramic surface.

A domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal shields the dial while the black rubber-lined leather strap serves to dress up the dive watch. The back of the watch is also furnished with a sapphire crystal window for a view of the in-house Master Chronometer Caliber 8900 powering the Planet Ocean. The “Master Chronometer” designation means that this automatic movement has been certified both by COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) for precision and accuracy and METAS (The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology) for optimal durability and reliability out in the real world.

Best Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Watch

Known as the James Bond Casino Royale Watch for its appearance in the 2006 Bond film starring Daniel Craig, the Planet Ocean ref. 2900.50.91 makes an impression thanks in part to its large size. The watch sports a 45.5mm steel case – the largest size option in the Planet Ocean collection, paired with the classic black dial and black aluminum bezel. The black rubber strap makes this Planet Ocean ideal for diving or any other sporty activity.

This James Bond Omega Planet Ocean is equipped with a solid stainless steel case-back, complete with the brand’s famed Seamaster Hippocampus engraving. Beneath the case-back sits the ETA-based Caliber 2500 automatic movement, which has been modified with Omega’s Co-Axial escapement and supplies the watch with approximately 48 hours of power reserve.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Chronograph in Titanium

One look at this ref. 232.90.46.51.03.001 and it’s easy to understand why it’s one of the best Omega Planet Ocean watches to buy. This diving chronograph features a 45.5mm case crafted from solid titanium and features a rich blue dial paired with a blue ceramic and Liquidmetal bezel. The watch features small splashes of bright orange – the Planet Ocean’s signature color, while blue accents on the chronograph pushers match the dial for a sleek and cohesive overall appearance.

The glossy blue dial is home to two sub-dials, a date window at the 6 o’clock position, and the “Seamaster” name in orange. This Planet Ocean Chronograph also includes a matching titanium bracelet, finished with a proprietary fold-over clasp and an additional diver extension. As a newer Plant Ocean chronograph, the watch runs on the chronometer-certified Co-Axial Caliber 9300 automatic movement, which is designed and manufactured by Omega in-house and can be admired via the clear sapphire case-back.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer in Brown Ceramic

Best Omega Planet Ocean Seamaster Watch 600M Master Chronometer Brown Ceramic

Capping off our best Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean watch is a model that brings together brown ceramic, 18k Sedna red gold, and quilted rubber for a richly toned and luxurious iteration of the brand’s robust dive watch. The Omega Planet Ocean in brown ceramic ref. 215.62.40.20.13.001 follows in the footsteps of the Deep Black Planet Ocean models, but as its name implies, the color of the ceramic case is brown rather than black.

The watch includes a 39.5mm brown ceramic case, accented by 18k Sedna gold (Omega’s proprietary red gold alloy) details like a helium escape valve, winding crown, and knurled bezel. To match the case, the watch also features a brown ceramic bezel insert and matching brown ceramic dial – all punctuated with Sedna gold touches. The quilted brown rubber strap may be dressier than traditional rubber straps due to its textured surface but it still retains the toughness and water-resistance we’ve come to expect from this material. Inside this brown ceramic Omega Planet Ocean is the Master Chronometer Caliber 8800, which is a smaller version of the Cal. 8900 that offers the same METAS-certified performance as its larger siblings and sits on full display through the sapphire NAIAD Lock case-back.

These fantastic dive watches are just a small taste of what the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M collection has to offer. With seemingly endless configurations and a wide range of sizes, there’s a perfect Omega Planet Ocean model for just about anyone looking for a high-end professional diving watch.
